San Diego Fire-Rescue (SDFD) crews helped rescue a man who fell 200 feet into a Hillcrest canyon early Wednesday morning.
San Diego police first responded to a report of a possible burglary at approximately 3:21 a.m. on the 3500 block of Albatross Street in Hillcrest.
At the same time, they said, they got a call about a man who fell down a canyon. Officials said the man ran toward the canyon and fell off a ledge.
It is unclear if police believe the man who fell into the canyon was a suspect in a crime.
Fire-Rescue crews and medics were called to the scene and began the long process of rescuing him.
Because he was so far down in the canyon, officials had to perform a low-angle rescue. Crews could not use a helicopter, like they might in these circumstances, because of the terrain.
Firefighters had to climb down to rescue him.

Police said the man had an injured knee and was not cooperative with officers.
