Man Drives 100 mph with Wife on Hood

Witnesses were treated to a crazy sight this weekend near Pleasanton: a van speeding at over 100 miles per hour with a woman clutching the hood.

The whole scene started earlier in the day when a couple started arguing. The husband tried to leave, according to the CC Times, and his wife tried to stop him by standing in front of the car.

Eventually -- and nobody's sure exactly how -- she wound up on the hood, and that's when her husband decided to floor it. As the wife clung to the rear-view mirror and windshield wiper, he zoomed through several towns, attracting multiple police reports.

After some time, the driver slowed down enough that the woman could fall off with few injuries. She was given medical care while her husband was arrested. It's not his first unusual run-in with the law: a few days earlier, he hid in a dumpster while police sought to arrest him for drunkenness. He sounds like quite a catch.

Meanwhile, in San Jose, a fifteen-year-old and an 84-year-old had a similar altercation. A young boy stole his elderly neighbor's car, and then ran her over as the grandmother tried to stop him. She suffered a dislocated shoulder, lacerations, and other injuries.

The boy was arrested a week later.

Those people were lucky: approximately 110 people die every day in the country due to car crashes. The yearly cost of crashes in the US is estimated to be $230 billion, or $500 for every driver.
