Man Dies in Leucadia House Fire

An elderly man is dead after a fire in Leucadia, a fire described as unusually difficult to see.

Firefighters were called to the 200 block of Jason Street this morning.

Smoke is what neighbors saw around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.  Smoke but no flames, which may be why the was difficult for firefighters to see at first.

"They came up, and found some light smoke coming up out of a pet door on the structure, felt the door, discovered it was hot."

Firefighters say the fire burning in the living room and part of a bedroom had not broken through the roof or windows therefore containing itself within the house.

"It was there they discovered a body inside the residence."

Neighbors say it was an elderly man who lived alone there, a man who'd lived in this neighborhood for decades.

"Quiet old man, liked feeding the crows," said

"I would call him somewhat of a hoarder. So, that house was full of stuff..."

But sheriff's investigators cannot say if that played any role in the fire, or if they've found any sign of arson.

"We're still looking at that. Trying to determine the cause and the origin of the fire, however at this time we don't suspect any foul play."

"Sad, sad, sad that somebody died this way, lonely by himself."

The medical examiner has not released the victim's name or the exact cause of death.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
