Nearly $66,000 worth of cocaine and meth was recovered at a Pine Valley U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint Friday afternoon, after a man tried to cross the checkpoint in a Buick LeSabre with the drugs hidden inside the car.

It happened around 2:45 p.m. on June 26, at the Pine Valley Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 8. A 53-year-old man was trying to smuggle containers filled with methamphetamine and cocaine, said U.S. Customs and Border Patrol

Agents found two containers full of methamphetamine, totaling 2.35 pounds, under the rocker panel on the passenger side, and one container of cocaine, totaling 1.45 pounds, under the driver's side rocker panel, according to the Border Patrol. Agents searched the car after the driver displayed nervous behavior and gave inconsistent answers to the questions being asked.

The driver, a Mexican citizen who had legal rights to travel in the U.S., was arrested and the drugs were given over to an anti-drug task force.
