Man Attempted to Kidnap Girl: Cops

Girl ran away from man after he began chasing her

A girl was chased by a suspicious man on her way to school in Imperial Beach Wednesday morning, police said.

The 16-year-old Southwest High School student was walking along a Coronado Bridge Ave. in Imperial Beach at about 7:30 a.m. when a man pulled up next to her in a white Ford Focus, San Diego police said.

The man tried to talk to her, but she ignored him and kept walking.

He persisted, getting out of the car and chasing her. She ran away and he stopped chasing her. He was last seen driving away on the Coronado Ave. bridge.

The girl reported the attempted kidnapping when she got to school at Southwest High School on 1685 Hollister St.

Police weren't notified about the attempted kidnapping until 9:45 a.m., a spokesperson at the department said.

The San Diego Police Department is classifying this as an attempted kidnapping.
