Man Arrested After Attempted Store Robbery: Grantville

Suspect reportedly pulled knife on clerk, demanded cash

A 34-year-old man was arrested early morning Saturday after police say he tried to rob a Grantville Rite-Aid.

The suspect, identified as Michael Bowen, entered the store located at 6505 Mission Gorge Road sometime around 7:55 a.m., according to Officer Franck Cali, of San Diego police.

Bowen reportedly walked up to the counter, pulled out a knife and demanded cash from a store clerk.

When the clerk refused to give Bowen cash, police say he fled the store.

The clerk followed Bowen outside and that's when Bowen turned around and pointed the knife at the clerk again before fleeing the area, according to police.

Police who responded to the incident located Bowen in the 4600 block of Zion and arrested him on robbery charges, Cali said in a media release.

The SDPD Robbery unit was investigating the incident.
