Man Accused of DUI, Child Endangerment in Fatal Oceanside Crash

A child witnessed his father drive into a pedestrian on an Oceanside street, according to witnesses and Oceanside police.

An unidentified man was walking westbound on Mission Avenue east of Mesa Drive at 4:00 p.m. Thursday when he was struck by a 2002 Kia Sedona traveling in the opposite direction. 

Oceanside Police took the Kia driver into custody. Ricky Robledo, 42, is accused of being under the influence of alcohol and with his 8-year-old son at the time of the crash, police said.

Robledo was driving eastbound on Mission Avenue when police say he drifted into the bike lane. He pulled over and waited for emergency crews to arrive.

The pedestrian was identified as in his late 60’s. Emergency personnel rushed him to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Robledo was booked into the Vista Detention Center for felony DUI, vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and felony child endangerment, according to Oceanside Police.
