Navy SEAL Accidently Shoots Himself in Head

He was trying to prove the gun wasn't loaded, police said

A U.S. Navy SEAL accidentally shot himself in the head at a home in Pacific Beach, according to police.

The 22-year-old had returned from a bar at about 2:08 a.m. Thursday to a home on Grand Ave., according to police.

โ€œHe was in the company of a female. He was showing her his 9mm handgun,โ€ said Lt. Andra Brown.
The woman, who he had met earlier in the evening, refused to take the gun, police said.

To show her it wasnโ€™t loaded, police say the man put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger.

โ€œHe believed it to be unloaded and unfortunately he put it to his head and shot himself in the head,โ€ said Lt. Brown.

He was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.

The Medical Examinerโ€™s Office originally said that the man had died. The Navy later said heโ€™s on life support.

โ€œHe was reported dead by the attending physician at 3:08 this morning, however he is currently on life support,โ€ said Lt. Brown.

The 22-year-old had completed Navy SEAL training, according to multiple sources in the military.
