Local Reporter Set to Take Office

Former consumer reporter Marti Emerald and several other new office holders will be sworn in on Monday, changing the face of San Diego city politics.

Emerald will represent District 7. She won a very close race in November, narrowly beating out out April Boling in the runoff election. The former KGTV reporter bested Boling by just 704 votes. Emerald replaces the termed-out Jim Madaffer.

Also taking office will be former judge Jan Goldsmith, who will replace outgoing Mike Aguirre. Incumbent mayor Jerry Sanders will begin his second term on Monday.

There will be other new faces on the City Council as well, including District 1 Councilwoman Sherri Lightner, District 3 Councilmen Todd Gloria and District 5 Councilmen Carl DeMaio.
