Local Miss California Hopes to Bring Home Crown

Southern California's Miss California USA, Carrie Prejean, is heading off to Las Vegas to compete for the national crown.

Her family hosted a "Sweet Sunday Send Off" party with her close friends and family a few weeks ago. She also modeled the gowns and other outfits she'll be wearing in the competition.

She will represent the state at the 58th Annual Miss USA competition, which will be shown on NBC on April 19.

Prejean got the nod from the judges at the Palm Springs Rivera back on Nov. 23, 2008. The 21-year-old attends San Diego Christian College, where she is studying to become a special-ed elementary school teacher. The beauty-pageant queen was Miss Greater San Diego in 2007.

Also prior to winning the 2009 crown, Prejean has been a member of the San Diego Padres' Pad Squad as well as as a finalist for a case model on "Deal or No Deal." Carrie even modeled for E! Entertainment at the Academy Awards.
