Southern California Man, 24, Dies in Valley Center Crash

The driver, Manpreet Singh Ghotra, drifted off Lilac Road and was broadsided by another vehicle on Aug. 8

A Southern California who man died in a crash in Valley Center Monday night after his car drifted into another lane has been identified.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner's office confirmed Wednesday that the man killed in the collision was Manpreet Singh Ghotra, a 24-year-old who lived with friends in a home in Valley Center.

According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer Gil Ochoa, Ghotra was driving his Honda Accord east on Lilac Road, near Candle Way, at around 11 p.m. when, for unknown reasons, he lost control and veered off the right side of the road.

In an attempt to overcorrect, officials said the driver slid into the opposing westbound lane where he was then broadsided by an oncoming Toyota 4-Runner driven by a Valley Center resident.

Ghotra suffered serious injuries and died at the scene, Ochoa confirmed. The driver of the Toyota suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

The deadly collision shut down Lilac Road for several hours overnight.

The investigation is ongoing but, at this time, CHP officials do not suspect driving under the influence was a factor in the deadly crash.
