Police Find Missing Woman in Apartment After Exhaustive Search

A woman's clothes, wallet and cellphone were found near water's edge

Ocean beach lifeguards began a search at sunrise for a 46-year-old woman they believed was missing.

A concerned citizen found women's clothing, a cellphone and a wallet at the water's edge Wednesday morning and called lifeguards.

At 9:30 a.m., police officers found the woman safe and unharmed in her Ocean Beach apartment. The woman said she went swimming Tuesday night with friends. When she got out of the water she could not find her clothes, so she walked home without them.

Lifeguards searched for two hours for the woman.  They requested help searching for the woman from the U.S. Coast Guard, which began a helicopter search just before 6 a.m. Wednesday. One Coast Guard boat and several lifeguard boats were searching for the woman. Crews on the shore also searched.

Police went to the woman's apartment complex but had difficulty finding the right unit number. They impounded her clothes.

The woman's name has not been released.
