Law enforcement authorities in San Diego are investigating a laser strike reported Tuesday by an American Airlines pilot as his plane was landing at Lindbergh Field.
An Airbus A321 was arriving from Phoenix just after 9 p.m. when the pilot reported to air traffic control operators that there was a laser light in the cockpit.
There were 168 passengers and six crew members aboard the aircraft at the time.
No one was injured and the plane landed safely.
A similar incident happened to a flight landing at San Diego International Airport. Locals refer to the airport as Lindbergh Field.
Pointing a laser at a commercial airliner is a federal offense. It's punishable by up to 20 years in prison and an $11,000 fine.
