A doctor for more than 30 years, Jeffrey Marxen, M.D. had an office in Grossmont Center

A La Mesa orthopedic surgeon died after he was thrown 150 feet in a motorcycle crash Thursday night in Rancho Penasquitos.

Jeffrey Marxen M.D., 60, was identified by the county’s medical examiner as the driver of a Honda Goldwing motorcycle that lost control heading northbound on Black Mountain Road around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators said when Marxen’s motorcycle struck the curb, he was thrown into a large blue metal canister protecting a water main line along the curb.

Even though bystanders stopped to help and emergency crews arrived to render aid, Marxen was pronounced dead at the scene according to the medical examiner.

Marxen and his wife lived in Carmel Valley.

A doctor for more than 30 years, Marxen was listed as sharing an office in Grossmont Center on a medical registry that stated he worked with both Sharp Coronado and Sharp Grossmont.
