Kris Bryant is Feeling Right at Home at Petco Park

Padres Drop Game 2 against the Cubs

The Padres were hoping Kris Bryant’s trip back to his old stomping grounds wouldn’t be so comfortable, but after two games against the team with the best record in the league, it’s clear the USD star and the rest of the Chicago Cubs are thoroughly enjoying their time in America’s Finest City.

Left handed pitcher Christian Friedrich was on the hill for the Friars. Friedrich lasted six innings before he was replaced by Brandon Morrow. Meanwhile, Chicago Cubs ace Jake Arrieta held the Padres to just two hits over the course of eight innings at Petco Park.

It was a scoreless game until the top of third inning when Bryant blasted a home run into left field to get the Cubs on the board first, 1-0. That score would hold until the fifth inning when Cubs second baseman Ben Zobrist doubled to deep right center and brought in Bryant. Shortly after, Cubs infielder Addison Russell hit a two run homer to put Chicago up 4-0.

A sacrifice fly to center field by Bryant in the sixth inning brought in Arrieta to give the Cubs the healthy 5-0 lead. The fans were likely to starting to feel a bit of Deja-vu from Monday’s game.

The Padres rallied in the ninth inning to bring in three runs in a wild attempt to save this game. However, the damage was already done. The Friars avoided the shut out but dropped their second game in a row against the Cubs with a final score of 5-3. They will close out the series against Chicago and a week-long homestand on Wednesday.
