Kournikova Hopes to Sweep the Links

The 2011 Callaway Golf Junior World Golf Championships are underway across San Diego and one familiar iconic sports name is on the roster -- Kournikova.

Yep golf, not tennis -- six-year-old Allan Kournikova is the younger sibling of famed tennis star Anna Kournikova.

Kournikova has been playing golf for 18 months and will compete in the 6 and Under division. He has already won the European Championship in Scotland and hopes to take it all this week.

"I think I am going to play well tomorrow and I think I am going to shoot a 53 tomorrow and win the tournament," Kournikova said.

During practice on Tuesday, Kournikova was only four strokes over his target.

I shot a 57, I played decent on the front 9 and I started to play really good on the back 9, Kournikova said.

At his last tournament at Pinehurst, Kournikova came in 23rd place, but he doesn't seem to let that stop him from trying to achieve his goal, to become as good an athlete as his sister, Anna.

The tournament has produced several big name golf stars over the years, including Lorena Ochoa, Amy Alcott, Ernie Els, Phil Mickelson, and six-time winner Tiger Woods.

More than 1,100 junior golf players from 54 countries and 42 states will take part in this week’s tournament.
