An Escondido man is accused of plotting with an undercover agent to kidnap a woman and force her husband to repay a debt by ransoming her, the FBI said.
Lee Arthur Bradley, 29, is charged with attempted kidnapping in a criminal complaint filed Wednesday, according to FBI spokesman Darrell Foxworth.
“Bradley met with a law enforcement source and proposed a plan to kidnap the wife an individual who allegedly owed a debt to Bradley,” Foxworth said.
The plan involved having the undercover agent pose as a police officer and pretend to arrest the woman.
“Afterwards, Bradley planned to transport the victim to Tijuana, Mexico and release the victim in exchange for a $100,000 ransom,” Foxworth said.
Bradley was arrested Tuesday near West Ninth Avenue in Escondido, before he could carry out the plot.
