    A parolee took his parents’ truck out for a joy ride Tuesday morning and crashed it into a fire hydrant in Chula Vista, creating a huge mess.

    When the owners of the truck discovered it missing, they called police and reported it stolen.

    A parolee took his parents' truck out for a joy ride Tuesday morning and crashed it into a fire hydrant in Chula Vista. It took crews 45 minutes to turn off the water.

    Officers found the truck in the 300 block of Palm Avenue just before 2:00 a.m. with a geyser of water shooting into the air.

    The 22-year old driver and his three passengers took off.  The driver's mother said she got a call from her son saying he had crashed the vehicle and that he's now on the run.

    It took water crews 45 minutes to turn off the gushing water.
