Sen. John McCain boarded the USS Midway on Tuesday night to receive the Midway American Patriot Award for lifetime contributions to America.
More than 600 people attended the annual black-tie fundraiser, where journalist Larry King emceed the event.
The proceeds from yesterday’s fundraiser provide scholarships to many of the 40,000 students who study aboard the Midway annually.
One of the honorary co-chairs was former California Governor Pete Wilson,
“Freedom is our birth right in this country it doesn't mean you shouldn't honor and respect the people who won it for you... do in order for your kids to live in freedom,” he said.
Vice Adm. James Stockdale also received the Patriot Award posthumously.
