Jogger Dies While Saving Stray Dog

Unusual story ends with jogger fatally struck

A woman jogging in Laguna Niguel -- and trying to shoo a stray dog off the roadway -- was fatally struck Sunday when the drivers of two vehicles swerved to avoid hitting the dog.

The traffic accident at Moulton Parkway and Crown Valley Parkway was reported to authorities at 11:10 a.m., said Orange County Sheriff's Lt. Ted Boyne.

The jogger died at the scene, and her name has not been released. The dog did not belong to her, said Boyne.

Boyne said two vehicle northbound vehicles, trying to avoid the stray dog, collided. The impact of that collision forced one or both of the vehicles to hit the jogger.

Paramedics rushed three people from the two vehicles to Mission Hospital in Laguna Beach. Their conditions were not immediately known, said Boyne.

A Sigalert was issued at noon for the closure of northbound Moulton Parkway from Aliso Creek Road to Crown Valley Parkway until 4 p.m.
