Job Fair Targets Transitioning Military Veterans

A career fair was held Friday to connect military veterans looking for work with companies that are searching for quality employees.

Representatives of more than a dozen companies met prospective job candidates at the Scottish Rite Center.

Sali Williams is COO of VetReady.org, a non-profit organization based in San Diego that works to connect military veterans with companies looking for employees.

Williams said career fairs that target veterans make the job of finding work after service easier.

β€œThey know they are interviewing with companies that are actively hiring transitioning veterans,” she said. β€œIt gives them a lot more confidence.”

Helen Pendleton is looking for a job so she stopped at the career fair. She served at MCRD from 1971 to 1974.

β€œI believe in helping seniors and vets in their homes,” Pendleton said. β€œI want them to stay independent as much as they can.”

She found one position she’s interested in and was planning to follow up on a few that caught her eye.
