A car slammed into a power pole, knocking out power to more than 1,300 people

A driver slammed into a power pole in Jamul Thursday night, causing more than 1,300 people to lose power.

A suspected drunk driver slammed into a power pole in Jamul Thursday night knocking out power to 1,312 people in the area.

According to the CHP, the motorist was a woman who was driving with her seven-year-old son in the car when she hit the power pole along the 94 freeway at Vista Sage Lane around 8:36 p.m.

Authorities said the pole was severed, but still standing with overhead lines hanging from it.

Communities affected by the power outage include portions of Jamul, Lyons Valley, La Presa/Spring Valley and Rancho San Diego.

Just before 11 p.m.,  SDG&E said 249 people were still without power in the area. Power restoration is expected around 12:30 a.m.

The CHP said there were no major injuries.
