A body was found in the trunk of a burned-out car in San Diego’s East County early Thursday officials confirmed.

The driver of a passing vehicle called 911 after seeing car fire along Skyline Truck Trail east of Jamul around 4:30 a.m.

As they were fighting the flames, they discovered a body in the trunk of the four-door sedan parked in front of a home.

San Diego County sheriff's homicide investigators and the bomb/arson team are at the scene and estimate the area will be closed off for five to six hours.

Captain Duncan Fraser from the sheriff's department talks to NBC 7 reporter Artie Ojeda about the crime scene in Jamul involving a body found inside the trunk of a burnt car.

The victim was so badly burned that at this point their gender has not been determined.

“Because of the suspicious nature of the event that it was a fully engulfed vehicle and the charred remains of a human inside the vehicle, it does not appear to be the result of a vehicle accident," Capt. Duncan Fraser said.

Investigators say it appears the homicide has no connection to the nearby home.
