Island Community Performs Concert for Junior Seau

Local bands in the Samoan community will hold a musical tribute to the late football star

    The local island community will perform a musical tribute to Junior Seau Wednesday evening at Seau's in Mission Valley.

    The veteran linebacker of  Samoan descent died of suicide last week. His family is now awaiting toxicology results from a forensic autopsy.

    Local bands expected to play at the performance include Fiji and Stateside Islander Crew. The performance starts at 7 p.m. and will go until the restaurant closes.

    His body has been returned to his family, a spokeswoman with the county Medical Examiner's office said Monday. His body is now in his family's designated mortuary.

    A public memorial will take place Friday at Qualcomm stadium at 6:30 p.m. The stadium's gates will open at 4:30 p.m.
