Bell Fire Nearly Contained

CALFIRE responded to a fire that burned quickly through East County

A brush fire near the border is now 80 percent contained.

The fire started at about 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, and was located south of Highway 94 and west of the Bell Valley Truck Trail, according to CALFIRE authorities.

The fire burned about 20 acres.

About 125 firefighters from CALFIRE arrived and were assisted by the San Diego Sheriff’s Department and the U.S. Forest Service. CALFIRE used seven engines, five fire crews, one water tender, one bulldozer, three helicopters and 6 air tankers.

Firefighters will remain on scene to gain full containment and control, and will be mopping up any remaining hotspots.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
