Important California Food Recall

Consumers should avoid more than 50 sauces and oils manufactured by Union International Food Co. because they were produced at a facility contaminated with salmonella, the California Department of Public Health announced Wednesday.

Pepper products from the facility have been associated with an outbreak of salmonella that has sickened 57 people in four states, including 42 in 17 Northern California counties, according to Dr. Mark Horton, the director of the California Department of Public Health.

No deaths have been reported.

The recalled sauce and oil products are packaged under the Lian How and Uncle Chen brand name in various glass and plastic containers. Following the Lian How and Uncle Chen brand name the wording "Packed by Union International Foods" or "Union International Foods" appears.

Consumers who have questions may contact the Union International Food Co. at (510) 471-6799.
