‘I Was Very Scared': 9-Month Pregnant Driver Recounts Terrifying Hit-And-Run

Michael Dorman, 26, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after allegedly being involved in five hit-and-runs in one night in San Diego’s North County

A nine-month pregnant driver struck by a suspected drunk driver - involved in five crashes the same night - recounted the terrifying Friday crash, saying it's a miracle no one was killed.

Leticia Arcos Rodriguez, nine months pregnant, said on Friday afternoon, she was driving to her aunt's house when her car was intentionally hit by a suspected drunk driver, later identified as Michael Dorman, 26.

"I cannot explain how in shock I was," she recalled.

Rodriguez's car was one of five hit in separate crashes in San Diego's North County in a span of two hours. San Diego County Sheriff's investigators (SDSO) said Dorman was under the influence of alcohol when he was driving, intentionally trying to hit pedestrians and cars.

His first victim was a pedestrian walking outside an Albertson's parking lot at 1301 E. Vista Way in Vista. He then continued to a nearby residential area. In total, four pedestrians were hit and at least two cars. Dorman was arrested in Oceanside after a 15-minute pursuit.

Rodriguez was in the car with her mom and nephew at the time, she told NBC 7 San Diego. She said she was thankful and relieved she was inside the car and not out on the street.

The crash, she said, was terrifying because she worried something had happened to her child.

"My belly hit the steering wheel, so I was very scared," Rogriguez said. "I told myself, what if there's something wrong with my baby. There's an impact. I rushed to the emergency room and everything was fine, thankfully."

Rodriguez said she is still in shock, she said.

"Fortunately no one was hurt, no one was injured," she said. "The car was completely totaled. We are very fortunate that everyone was okay."

Sheriff's deputies says the incident is a good reminder not to drink and drive.

"During this holiday season, if you choose to drink please have a designated driver or use a ride sharing service," said SDSO Media Relations Director Ryan Keim.

Dorman was booked into the Vista Detention Facility on nearly a dozen charges, including DUI, driving while on probation and attempted murder.

Jail booking records indicate he was driving with a blood-alcohol content of nearly twice the legal limit. Dorman is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing.

"If anyone saw anything, has any evidence, maybe a cell phone video or anything to add, please contact the Sheriff's Department. That's how we are successful in these types of investigations: input from the community," Keim said.
