A human skeleton was found Thursday afternoon in an Otay Mesa creek bed just north of the Mexico border, a U.S. Border Patrol official confirmed.

A habitat-restoration worker made the discovery near Calle de Linea and Cactus Road.

The county Medical Examiner's Office is handling the case after immigration officials first notified the San Diego Police Department.
