Fire Engulfs Mountain View Home

Fire officials believe the home is abandoned

An apparently abandoned home caught fire Saturday afternoon, engulfing the house in flames and smoke.

The fire on south 35th, near Webster Ave. started just before 1 p.m. Saturday, according to San Diego Fire Department officials.

Authorities believed the house in the Mountain View neighborhood was abandoned.

Crews were asked to stand clear of the house and spray water from a distance, as the house's roof was in danger of collapsing.

The fire briefly spread to brush on a hillside nearby, but police were able to knock down the brush fire shortly after it started.

There were no injured reported by the time crews extinguished the flames. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the fire.
