Homicide detectives are investigating after a woman's body was found near a road in unincorporated Escondido Thursday afternoon.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department (SDSO), a nearby resident discovered the body around 2 p.m. on an embankment off Champagne Boulevard.
According to a preliminary investigation, it does not appear the woman was killed in the area where her body was found, Sheriff's Homicide Lt.Kenn Nelson told NBC 7.
The victim may have died elsewhere. There is no indication how long ago the woman's body was there, Nelson said.
She has been identified but investigators are not releasing the name until they've identified her family.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (888)580-8477. A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest.
No other information was immediately available.
