Woman's Decomposed Body Found in Grant Hill Canyon

The San Diego Police Department has classified the woman's death as suspicious, and a homicide investigation is under way

Detectives are investigating how a woman's decomposed body ended up in a canyon near San Diego’s Grant Hill community Wednesday, calling the death suspicious.

The San Diego Police Department (SDPD) said the victim was found in a large canyon area behind an apartment complex near 29th and Market streets just before 5:30 p.m. A passerby had called authorities to check on the woman, who was not moving.

Police said the woman’s body was partially decomposed. Due to the condition of the body, investigators were unable to immediately determine the woman’s cause of death. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s office (ME) will perform an autopsy to ascertain the manner and cause of death.

For now, detectives have classified the death as a homicide. Detectives remained on scene for several hours Wednesday evening collecting evidence.

Police said the woman has not yet been identified.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information on this case should call the SDPD Homicide Unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
