Homes Evacuated Near Rincon

A small mudslide on the Rincon Indian Reservation forced the evacuation of about 40 people Thursday.

A small bank washed away overnight and the mud slid right up against homes on Eucalyptus Lane, lifting the ground up by about two feet according to one resident.

Many evacuees went to a nearby command center. Among them was Jessica Smith who had to evacuate her home with her five-month old twins.

"It's not the first time and it's exciting work, it's fun, it's not a great thing that happens, but we're good. We just keep rolling with it. If it's not a fire, it's a flood," said resident Rick Mazzetti.

Near Pala, crews were on standby.  As of 4 p.m. Thursday, they had not reported any major problems but they're on alert because of concerns of flooding and slides in burn areas.
