A home in East County was destroyed by fire Monday.
Fire crews were not able to halt the blaze's path in the home in the 12850 block of Jackson Hill Drive in the Winter Gardens community, which is east of Santee in the unincorporated area of San Diego. Ten engines were called to the residence after 1 p.m. and attacked the fire from multiple directions but were unsuccessful in controlling the fire before it destroyed the house. Firefighters were still at the house hours later, putting out hot spots.
The woman who owned the house was home at the time of the fire and was able to get herself and all her animals out safe.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
