Hikers Rescued From Mountains Near Lakeside

Two men from Colorado were stranded in mountains for 24 hours, according to officials

Two Colorado men who were stranded for 24 hours in a mountain-area near Lakeside were rescued Sunday.

The pair, both in their mid-20's, became lost after hiking on El Cajon Mountain in an area close to the El Captan Reservoir Dam, according to San Diego County Sheriff's deputies.

The two men went hiking on Saturday afternoon and later found themselves trapped on the side of the mountain, said Sgt. Scott Enyeart.

Deputies learned of the stranded hikers at 8:29 a.m. on Sunday. The men could be heard yelling for help once deputies arrived to the scene, Enyeart said.

The ASTREA helicopter was used to locate and airlift the hikers from the side of the mountain.

Both men declined medical attention, according to Enyeart.
