Helicopter Rescues Man From Canyon

A man who fell into a canyon was hoisted to safety

San Diego's Copter One conducted a high-risk rescue for a man who fell off a bridge into the bottom of a canyon in Chula Vista early Wednesday morning.

Fire crews got a call around midnight that a man had fallen off the bridge nearly 30 ft. below. A rescue response team pulled the victim to safety using a helicopter for a risky hoist operation. A flight paramedic was lowered down from the helicopter to assist the victim and help secure the patient so he could be brought back up into the helicopter. Rescue crews said the man had moderate injuries.

The incident occurred near Heritage Road and Main Street in Chula Vista near Brown Field, down the road from Cricket Wireless Amphitheater

The man has been hospitalized at Mercy Hospital’s trauma center and it is uncertain how he ended up in the canyon. Officials said the victim may have been attending a concert at the amphitheater last night.
