Two cars collided on State Route 78 just west of Haverford Road in Ramona Tuesday, closing the road to traffic.

A Ford Explorer was headed westbound traveling around 35 mph when its driver saw a Toyota Echo had crossed into oncoming traffic according to San Diego police Sgt. Reschke.

The Toyota was crushed on the front of the driver's side. The 28-year old driver was rushed to Palomar Medical Center where she is expected to survive. She has two broken legs and massive internal injuries.

The driver of the Ford speculated that the woman had dozed off, police said.

The accident happened just after 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. Officers closed the road for approximately three hours after the crash. The road has been reopened since approximately 8:30 a.m.
