SD Gulls to Open Season at Home Against Red Wings' Affiliate

After months of anticipation, San Diego Gulls fans can plan out their weekends.

The American Hockey League released its regular season schedule Thursday, and the Anaheim Ducks' top minor-league affiliate will welcome the Grand Rapids Griffins to town for its home opener on Saturday, Oct. 10. The Griffins are the Detroit Red Wings' AHL affiliate.

The second Gulls home game will be the following Friday on Oct. 16 against the Bakersfield Condors which is aligned with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers.

Other notable home games include a Halloween date with the Stockton Heat (Calgary Flames) as well as contests against Texas (Dallas Stars) and the Ontario Reign (LA Kings) on the days before and after Thanksgiving, respectively.

The 68-game schedule will feature 34 home dates at Valley View Casino Center with visits by each team in the Pacific Division (Bakersfield, Ontario, San Antonio, San Jose, Stockton and Texas) as well as three inter-conference opponents.

The three inter-conference opponents are the Griffins, the Charlotte Checkers (Carolina Hurricanes) and the Milwaukee Admirals (Nashville Predators). San Diego will host 13 Friday games, 12 Saturday games, seven Wednesday games, and also one game on a Tuesday and Sunday.

Individual regular season tickets for all Gulls games at Valley View Casino Center will go on sale in late-September. The team plans to sell discounted tickets for students and members of the military.
