Gulls go Old School to Beat Bakersfield

San Diego honors Willie O'Ree and, in his old sweater, takes care of the Condors

On Monday, Willie O'Ree was inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame. On Friday he was back in San Diego receiving another honor from the Gulls, the team he spent a third of his professional career with.

O'Ree was recognized in a ceremony before the Gulls played the Bakersfield Condors at Valley View Casino Center. He got to see the first ever Willie O'Ree  bobblehead, which was given out to fans in attendance. Then he got to see his old sweater from the late 1960's back on the ice.

And the modern-day Gulls did him proud.

San Diego beat up on Bakersfield with a 4-1 win. Corey Tropp scored a pair of goals and goalie Kevin Boyle was fantastic, stopping 46 of 47 shots. He didn't let anything past him until there were less than five minutes to play and by that time it was far too late.

Troy Terry and Chase De Leo also scored for the Gulls, who have won three straight at home and earned a standings point in their last seven home games. They get another one on home ice on Wednesday when the Ontario Reign come to town.
