In these tough economic times, people are looking for new ways to make money. Thieves included.

Now, crooks are apparently targeting garden decorations.

At least 18 sculptures ranging from a 600-pound bronze moose to a Buddha yard statue have been picked by thieves, according to our partners at the North County Times.

The San Diego County Sheriff's Department estimates the total loss over the last six months at close to $44,000, the paper reports.

"If you have stuff outside, lock it down if you can, and if you see anything suspicious, let us know," Sgt. Christina Bavencoff of the Ramona Sheriff's Substation told the NCTimes. "If people do have artwork, it would be in their best interest to mark it somehow so if it is stolen, we can trace it."

Read more about where the thieves struck in the full article in the North County Times.
