A geyser reaching high into the air could be seen above buildings in City Heights around noon Tuesday.
An eight-inch cast iron pipe broke, stopping traffic and leaving a school without water.
The break appeared to have blown out a manhole cover in the middle of the intersection at 54th Street and Trojan Avenue.
Several businesses near the intersection say they have no interruption of water service. The water pipe break affected 25 customers including Horace Mann Middle School according to a San Diego Water Department spokesperson.
