A gay rights group staged a mass "kissing" demonstration outside the Mormon Temple near La Jolla on Wednesday.

The Empowering Spirits Foundation rallied to support a couple that were cited for trespassing in Utah after sharing a kiss on church property. The two men refused to leave the a plaza in Salt Lake City when security guards who saw the kiss deemed the behavior inappropriate.

Rally organizers said the "kiss-in" was intended as a peaceful rally to encourage dialogue between the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the gay community.
