A two-inch natural gas line broke near the UTC mall, causing an evacuation early Thursday.

The area affected was near Sears at the mall on La Jolla Village Drive.

Firefighters arrived around 4:20 a.m. Thursday and evacuated workers in the area.

A San Diego Fire Rescue spokesman said firefighters closed the area because of the potential for gas to explode.

No injuries were reported and there was no danger to nearby homes.
