A 1-inch gas line near Golden Hill broke Tuesday afternoon, forcing several residents in the area to evacuate.

The line broke in the 600 block of 30th St. near Market in the Stockton neighborhood at about 2 p.m., San Diego Fire Department officials said.

The break happened as a result of a construction accident. SDG&E evacuated two homes and a gas station while they shut off and repaired the line.

The intersection of 30th St. and Market was blocked off by police officers until the line is fixed.
