High Flames Rip Through Garage

The fire started just before 8 a.m. in El Cajon

A garage full of construction materials went up in flames Sunday morning in El Cajon.

Heartland Fire & Rescue crews were called to the 300 block of Renette Avenue just before 8 a.m.

When they arrived, firefighters found tall flames and heavy smoke pouring from the garage, which was not attached to another building.

Three engines helped put the fire out quickly.

The garage's owner said the structure was full of construction materials like drywall, plywood and copper. She said her husband is a contractor and stores most of his supplies there.

No one was inside at the time, and no one was injured.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Heartland Fire officials estimate it caused about $30,000 in damage.
