Funeral Plans Set For Late Hiker

The family of hiker Guillermo Pino, Jr., announced plans for a vigil, mass and funeral service

Funeral plans have been set for late hiker Guillermo Pino, Jr., whose body was discovered in the Anza-Borrego Desert May 5 after he had been missing for nearly one month.

On Wednesday, a body was extracted from the depths of an Anza-Borrego mud cave by a mine rescue team.

On Thursday, the medical examiner confirmed the body was that of Guillermo Pino, Jr. The medical examiner later released that Pino’s cause of death was “positional asphyxia,” a form of suffocation.

Ever since Pino went missing on April 8 while hiking with friends, his family has been actively maintaining the Find Guillermo Pino Jr. Facebook page with updates.

Late Friday night, the page was updated with details about Pino’s upcoming funeral services.

“Thank you for all your prayers, support, and rescue efforts. Please join us in remembering Guillermo at the Closed Casket Vigil on Monday evening and/or the Mass service and burial on Tuesday,” read the post.

According to the post, the closed casket vigil will be held Monday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Clairemont Mortuary at 4266 Mt. Abernathy Ave. A rosary service will take place at 6:30 p.m.

The mass service will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church at 11451 Blue Cypress Drive in San Diego. The funeral will follow at Glen Abbey Memorial Park at 3838 Bonita Rd. in Bonita.

The family’s Facebook page also said they would be accepting donations for the memorial service through Paypal on this website, at the closed casket vigil Monday and at the mass on Tuesday.
