Funeral Held for Single Mom Killed Walking to Work

Funeral services were held Friday for a 36-year-old mother allegedly killed in a DUI crash in Poway.

Family and friends gathered at the Deerborn Cemetary in Poway to get closure and celebrate Kristen Bedard's life. She was killed instantly at 7 a.m. on Nov. 25 when a car allegedly driven by Becky Anderson, 44, jumped the curb on Community Road and struck the single mom.

Anderson, 44, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. She was alone in the car and visibly distraught at the scene of the accident, deputies said. It was not Anderson's first brush with the law, according to officials in Minnesota, who said Anderson was convicted in 1999 of driving while under the influence in that state. Officials said it was a gross misdemeanor case.

Anderson has pleaded not guilty to being under the influence of prescription drugs.

A news crew on the scene of the accident spotted deputies removing items from the car, including a pill bottle.

Bedard's family has put together a memorial college fund for her two children. It was set up through the US Bank under the name Bedard Family Memorial (account number 153464906541). Donations can be made at any branch.
