Fundraiser Planned for Justin Nonu's Family

Friends of former Oceanside High School football standout Justin Nonu are planning a fundraiser this weekend while investigators are still looking for a motive in the 22-year old's death.

Nonu was sitting around a table outside an Oceanside home Saturday morning when he was shot in the chest police said.

He was with four others outside the home in the 1700 block of Kraft Street and the bullet appears to have come from across the street officers said.

When Nonu was hit, he was dragged into the backyard by friends but he was pronounced dead on scene when police arrived.

The suspect was described only as wearing dark -colored clothing and fled west on Kraft Street.

A second man was shot in the hand but was not treated.

Nonu was a standout football player who graduated from Oceanside High School in 2006 and attended the University of Colorado.

Capt. Leonard Mata from the Oceanside Police Department says the victim was not in a gang, and the motive is still under investigation.

Any person with information is asked to call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at 1888-580-8477.

Meanwhile, friends say they are planning a fundraiser at Oceanside High on May 29.
