Fourth of July Weekend DUI Arrests in San Diego Down from 2015: CHP

California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers have arrested few people driving under the influence (DUI) in San Diego County this holiday weekend so far than they have in previous years, according to newly released statistics. 

From 6 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Sunday on Independence Day weekend, CHP officers arrested 42 people for driving under the influence. 

In 2015, officers arrested 47 people. Last year, one person died in a DUI-related crash, compared to none in San Diego this year, officers said. 

Statewide, CHP officers have arrested 673 people for DUI in the same time period, compared to 803 in 2015.

CHP officers have arrested 43 drivers for DUI this holiday weekend, compared to 55 last year. 

Twelve people have died across California in DUI-related crashes, compared to 18 in 2015.
