A witness reported seeing a flare off the coast of Ocean Beach around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Lifeguards and the Coast Guard both searched the area, but found nothing.
On Wednesday, at 6:30 a.m., the Coast Guard launched their helo for a "first light" search.
