Firefighters are pulling up the Burn Institute by their boot straps.
For the 12th straight year. San Diego firefigters took to the streets Wednesday morning for the Boot Drive, a countywide event in which firefighters with a boot in hand ask local commuters to donate money toward the Burn Institute.
Proceeds benefit the Burn Institute's education programs and support channels such as Camp Beyond the Scars, a 25th annual retreat that provides young burn survivors a supportive environment to share their experiences.
In 2010, nearly $210,000 was raised during the event, which will resume at major intersections during the evening commute.
Firefighters are also collecting at their local stations.
